One-day intensive alpine ice instruction with guides from Northwest Mountain School, aligned to FT1 expectations from the Alpine Ice module.
Good conditions. No picketts or snowshoes. 2-4 inches of crust on fair ice. Scrape it off and use screws all the way. Snow free approach. Road rough but passable. Fog obscured decent recommend following GPS track. 11 hrs 45 minutes car to car. Record for branch. We weren't fast but we weren't lost. Cold in AM.
Early Sunday morning trip with - No hikers, no views and no sun. But a 3.5 hours round trip. Planned as a conditioning scramble. One student graudated.

Three day backpack to Flapjack Lakes in the Olympics.
Traveling up to the ridge between Silver and Tinkham, followed by a traverse over both of Tinkham’s peaks and a descent to Mirror Lake, makes this do-able as a scramble in wet weather.
The open book and the ledges to its right were still wet, so we opted for a detour.
The weather was very cooperative and the view from the top was really amazing. It was a great half day day hike
