This shoulder season one-night overnight backpack trip was a perfect outing before the weather turned. The 10-12 year olds had little difficulty with the route and the lake was gorgeous.
A grand fall color tour in Mount Rainier National Park, of peaks and ridges in the area just south of the Carbon River. This was a S5/T5 scramble (~5400’ gain/~16 miles), but a technically easier (yet longer) S5/T1 variation would skip Gove and use the Ipsut Creek Trail instead.
"A so-so day hiking is better than staying home inside".

We started at 8:20 a.m. getting to the pass at 11:30, and then got back to the parking lot at 2:30 p.m. The weather forecast was very accurate with clear skies until noon, when it started snowing.

One day trip up the Spontaneity Arete route on Le Petit Cheval.
Beautiful bluebird day for a trip to Ingalls Lake and into Headlight Basin in the heart of larch country.
Day hike to Indian Henry's and Mirror Lake, via the Kautz Creek trail. This was the graduation hike for students in Tacoma's Conditioning Hiking Series class.
Checked out the NE Face in good weather but found the route in snowy rather than icy conditions.
A scramble to one of the worst Rainier 100 peaks with a great view from the top.
Fun day out cragging at Leavenworth.
August conditions in October.
Beautiful autumn hike. Great scenery, great hiking mates, great leadership.
Great day, great group! Fall colors and blueberries were out in full force, and beautiful. Climbed to top of McCausland and also did side trip down to Lake Valhalla.
