This amazing backpacking adventure with a group of hardy and stalwart Mountaineers Global Adventures included a visit to Tierra del Fuego national park, an 8-day sometimes soggy backpack along a very remote route crossing from northern Tierra del Fuego down to Ushuaia (52 miles, 11578' gain, 11798' loss), and then a cruise in the Beagle Channel to see penguins! Much of this route is off-trail with bogs, lots of log crossings and forest thickets, and steep boulder and scree ascents and descents. A highlight was two nights at a lakeside cabin with amazing food, warm beds and plenty of music and joy! Guides were provided by Compagnia de Guias Patagonia out of Ushuaia. Recommended to do this with guides as the trails aren't always well marked and it is handy with the constantly changing weather to have options to call for transport and to use trailside shelters. Packs ended up quite heavy with overnight gear and food so it would be recommended to organize porters the next time (though they are expensive in this part of Argentina). This trip report was written on behalf of the trip leader Shuko Hashimoto.
A great group of Mountaineers Global Adventurers trekked to viewpoints in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier, Monte Fitzroy and Cerro Torre in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park before trekking a circuit around Cerro Huemul high above the South Patagonian icefield and iceburg-dotted Lago Viedma - total miles 53, total elevation gain 11662 feet. The route includes three tyrolean traverses, a flat glacier crossing, and several steep to extremely steep boulder and scree ascents and descents with a few that required use of hands, veggie belays and guide help. Guides are strongly recommended for food support, use of fixed dining facilities, carrying of heavy gear, provision of 4-season tents, and assistance on the tyrolean traverses and steep terrain. Solo day hike to Green Mountain from Gold Creek Trailhead. There were no issues at all besides an unexpected rain shower.
Due to conflicting weather forecasts, variation in paddling abilities and the possibility of 19 kt gusts starting in mid afternoon I changed this trip from the original 16 mile paddle from Sunnyside Beach to the shorter 12 nm from Titlow. It only took us an hour coming and going the 6 nm each way which is I think the fastest time I have had on this trip. All paddlers performed very well with excellent group dynamics.
A quick trip to each of the three West Tiger summits on a day with a questionable forecast. We all completed and stayed dry!
IMO this is one of the prettiest trails on the I-90 corridor. Today was especially energized by the snowfall. Dirty Harry's Museum was today's destination.
Sunny Springtime Splendor on a lesser used access trail to Cougar Mountain
Great, short evening of single pitch cragging. Rocks were dry and we had the whole crag to ourselves! A stick clip would have been helpful in quite a few cases.
Spent a beautiful Easter Sunday on Easter Island on the way to Songbird Peak for an exploratory winter scramble.
Great weather, gorgeous views, and horrible skiing on Mt St Helens!
Spring in the valley, winter at the lakes. Gradually climbing trail with easy tread in second growth forest with occasional views
We completed a loop route , that included 26 stairways . There were great views on this scenic walk .
Dramatic and successful conclusion to series of 8 Wednesday morning "mini-conditioning" hikes during February-March. With increasing elevation gain, started with 3 miles & progressed to 9 miles. Good segue into Spring and beyond with some participants readying for Global Adventures, CHS or becoming a hike leader, themselves. Except for this final trip, snow-free & rain-free conditions ... the Wednesday weather-master was kind. But Grand Prospect was a grand test of our foul weather gear. Second year for this series and may do it again next year.
Great day with a good flow at 850 CFS. Focused on equivalancy today with Logan and Ricardo as part of the instructor group and five students. We found a good spot next to a water fall to practice self rescues, a boulder garden to practice mid stream manauvers and swims next to airplane wave.
A one-way paddle on the West Coast of Whidbey island, from Deception Pass State Park to Libbey Beach County Park. The views and the weather were fantastic.
12 NM "triple crossing" from Fort Casey to Port Townsend to Fort Flagler and return. Mountain views aplenty, pizza and coffee along the way!
3 days and 2 nights of winter camping on Mazama Ridge, with glorious spring-like weather and a day trip to explore the area around Paradise.
Good training hike, not too busy on a beautiful spring day!
