A beautiful tour of two river valleys, ascending the Little River to Hurricane Hill (with an unexpected snow storm on the summit), then gradually improving conditions as we descended to the Elwha River. A great workout of 5500’ elevation gain over 19 miles.
Successful climb of Silver Star Mountain threading the needle on weather with winter conditions on the summit block
Hiking and educational activities in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park showcasing amazing views, wildflowers, waterfalls, geology and history of the area.
A post trip huddle resulted in no complaints, plenty of smiles and we were all gleefully satisfied with our wonderful weather. A comment was made about the contrasts on Fidalgo Island. I have always felt that way on land but it strikes me how much more evident it is on the water!
A warm and beautiful evening for dinner with a view.
A warm day with challenging soft snow conditions, but a scenic ridge ascent!
Awesome 2 day high elevation scramble adventure!
Wonderful 14 day trekking and sightseeing trip to Morocco.
We had a sunny pleasant day with reasonable snow conditions. 5 students were successful on their first snow scramble.
Bring snowshoes - lots of postholing (& large tree wells) after a warm & sunny weekend. Didn’t submit Foss Peak due to apparent avalanche risk.
Early season conditions exists including unpacked snow (needs floatation), scattered snow on the climbing route (mostly after the top of the 3rd pitch) and continuous slide activity on the sunny day in the area (approach route was out of the way). Rock itself was in great shape and the climbing part was dry, sunny and fun.
We scouted the east side of the Church Creek Trail for an Olympia Branch National Trails Day stewardship trip on June 1st. We found plenty of work for stewards to do with saws, loppers, grub hoes, shovels and other trail tools.
A trip up the winter route on Mount Ellinor on the nicest day so far this year. The chute is opening up quickly and it may not be glissadable for much longer.
Easy hike to the river, lots of wildlife.
DO NOT HIKE THIS AREA IN THE RAIN. The soil is a fine clay that will turn to a treacherous slip & slide once wet and clings to all the crevasses in your boots. On dry days, this is a wonderful area to see views and wildflowers. Also, these trails are multi-use so keep an eye out for cyclists.
