Among Glacier National Park's premier scenic trails, its Abbott Ridge Trail ascends subalpine forest, passes Marion Lake, and reaches alpine meadows and tundra. Enjoy 360-degree sweeping views of nearly all of Glacier National Park including glacier-carved matterhorns of the Sir Donald Range, the ice fields of Illecillewaet Neve, Mount Bonney's tumbling glacier, and the Hermit Range peaks above far side of Rogers Pass to the north. It's 4 miles with 3,400 feet of elevation gain.

A challenging scramble of 11 miles and 5,200 feet of elevation gain. It is number 97 on the Washington Bulger List.

A direct hike up the northwest face of Mount Adams to a seasonal high camp near the snowline with options to camp lower along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).

Trips are best done in the fall when you will see wild sockeye salmon with their vivid red and green spawning colors, swimming upstream amid fall colors, mushrooms, and other wildlife.

Backpacking & Day Hiking
About 10 miles east of the Goat Rocks Wilderness and 25 miles west of Yakima, this forest is a varied area of working forest that transitions from high ridges of the eastern Cascades to desert plains. It is criss-crossed by roads and several hiking trails and is used by nature lovers, hikers, hunters, motorcycleists, and snowmobilers. Enjoy early spring wildflowers, vivid fall colors, golden Western Larch trees in late October, and excellent views of Mount Adams.

This trail system is affiliated with the Alderbrook Resort & Spa in Union, and is only open to guests of the resort.

The beaches that run northeast and southeast from Seattle's Alki Point are great for walking, jogging, rollerblading, biking, volleyball, beachcombing, learning a bit of Seattle history, and photography. For those that want to get in some elevation gain, there's the "Alki from Above" stairway walk.

Alki Crest is a moderate to strenuous but straightforward day hike with 2,740 feet of elevation gain in just under 3 miles. It is in the Carbon River area of Mount Rainier National Park.
Backcountry Skiing, Climbing, Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding & Scrambling
In the winter there is groomed resort skiing and access to some fantastic backcountry ski routes in the back bowls backcountry and the upper chairs at Alpental Ski Area. In late winter and early spring the slopes are perfect training grounds for practicing ice axe arrest and other snow travel techniques.

Alpine Baldy is a scramble of 5.5 miles with 2,400 feet of gain near Skykomish.
Day Hiking
A strenuous, 10 mile round trip day hike with 2,600 feet of elevation gain. The trail ascends steeply almost to the peak of Round Mountain and then continues on Nason Ridge to an operating lookout with views of the Cascades and Lake Wenatchee.

A strenuous, 8 mile snowshoe or cross country ski with 2,200 ft in elevation gain off of I-90 from the Cabin Creek Sno-Park. The ascent is switchbacks on a forest service road through forest and the views from the top are scenic.
