9 of us enjoyed beautiful, brisk weather and half an hour at Granite Lakes. I'd strongly recommend traction devices and poles for every hiker in the coming weeks, as the freeze-thaw cycle has laid down some thick, sheer ice in places. Streams are flowing low with recent dry weather; we had no trouble getting across the rocks and side-stepped logs with traction devices.
Carbon River Road Highlights. Old Mine, Ranger Falls, Green Lake, Chenuis Falls
We met at 9, had a safety briefing and a quick review of the work that needed to be done. We hiked the roughly 1 mile to the trail location that needed rerouting, we rerouted two sections of trail. We also had a nice lunch break and at the end of the day we hiked back to our cars and had a quick debrief before departing. It was a great day.
Approached from the west along one of the many possible routes to De Leo Wall passing through forest & greenbelts. Also includes crossing Coal Creek Parkway and a short walk through Newcastle neighborhoods.
Trip to scout conditions on Lane Peak. The route is in cruiser shape.
Approach and trail were all in great condition. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead, however it's still closed for the season. Plenty of parking in the lot.
Great hike along an easy to follow, well marked trail that's in good condition.
All paddlers had opted to come for a jumbalaya dinner at my house with many thanks and absolutely no complaints after our gorgeous day on the Salish Sea!
A short and sweet snow scramble with terrific views of surrounding peaks.

Three of us got an early start (7:40) for a lovely hike to the summit where gray jays looked on with great interest as we snacked. We were too early for a view, but we still had a lovely day.
We went uphill on the road and downhill through the trees.
Nighttime workout with clear weather and a full moon
Had a worthwhile outing despite challenging conditions
The sun came out in places and we were treated to a rainbow over Tacoma. The rapidly dropping sun gave some dramatic contrasts as I hung back to take some pictures.
Fantastic cross-country ski trip to Echo Ridge in Lake Chelan area. Blue skies, well-groomed trails and views galore!
It’s hard to describe the satisfaction and elation a successful alpine climb brings when the conditions are perfect, the scenery incredible and enjoyment of the time spent with a wonderful climbing team exceeds all expectations. This was a prize trip from The Mountaineers Gala Auction.
An extended weekend of winter camping at Mount Rainier! Starting from Narada Falls, we set up a base camp on Mazama Ridge and had a day trip up to Panorama Point.
