Successful climb on a wonderful route
May 20th 2017 was a very pleasant day for a successful scramble for 2 leaders and 8 first-time scramblers. Challenging snow conditions made this a more difficult trip than usual.
Great site for self-rescue skills outside of the permit-only zone in Icicle.

Amazing bird-focused guided hike through the Union Bay Natural Area. Identified 30 species (not just birds)
Cancelled due to NWAC Special Avalanche Advisory: very dangerous avalanche conditions expected. Lone Tree basin is very likely avy terrain.
Trail closed between Grand Prospect and East Peak due to logging.
Fantastic beach hike with very pleasant surprises!
The field trip included visits to the wetland ponds and Promontory Point, looking for resident and migratory birds. The group saw three kinds of swallows, nesting Pied-billed Grebes, Yellow-rumped and Wilson's warblers, Red-winged blackbirds, a nesting Cooper's Hawk among many other species.
A variety of wintry route conditions (as well changing weather) made for an interesting, educational, and memorable trip.
