The west coast faces the straight and is often hammered by wind and waves and so has some of the character of the outer coast. We had a calm day with clear air and tremendous visibility from San Juans, Vancouver Island, to Olympic peninsula and mountains. Some of the shoreline is low and other high bluff. Some inhabited and some wild.
Good snow conditions, great glissades, river crossing no problem
not much snow to walk on until basin ~5800' snow conditions were excellent, summit block dry and snow free
Interesting spring scramble, using much of the scrambling toolkit.
A fun backpack & scramble
A good mix of scramble students and scramble graduates went up to do some more peak bagging on sunday, after the Experience Field Trip on saturday. The initial plan was to do Koppen, we instead chose to do Teanaway Peak (later ended up doing Teanaway and Iron Peaks) to avoid stream crossings. Good driving conditions. Trail is mostly snow free. Rock is great as always.
Successful summit up the Jefferson Park Glacier, across the knife-edge ridge, and up the summit pinnacle.
A scramble needing good navigational skills and optimum conditions for best results
Rescheduled from the Brothers. A routine early season climb, with lots of snow.
Gorgeous vistas of Rainier, a good variety of terrain and skills, plus a nice workout at 4400’ gain.
Hiked to the junction and then the bump on the ridge. Ideal conditions, ideal group, perfect timing for the destination.
A very alpine experience on Kangaroo Temple!
Hiked summer trail. Snowing in the morning, sunny in the afternoon. Cold climb.
What looked like it might be a slog and struggle turned out for the much better. Though where was everyone else?
South Climb Route this year had less snow than last yer
