Of close-in, high-elevation local hikes, DHP is such a great way to avoid crowds. Be ready to cross streams when snow's melting.
Successful intro to leading trad trip
Went for the summit but had to stop a mile short. Ran into frozen snowdrifts and didn't have an ice axe to self-arrest.
Nothing like a rain shadow to make your day, and this NE Olympics version did not disappoint on this trip to North Petunia. Flowers, pristine lakes, sun warmed rocks (for sitting ;) and sweeping views made for a great time.
Very enjoyable river section. Continuous class II+ rapids in a beautiful setting. Watch out for wood
A great day circling the ridges above the Bean Creek Basin.
A serendipitously all-women strenuous snow scramble of Mount Ruth.
We hiked from the end of Forest Road 2361 and turned around at the ford of the Upper South Fork at 2.6 miles. The trail was clear of obstructions, and the river was picturesque after a few days of rain.
A moderate hike in the area south of Ellensburgto with outstanding views from the Stuart Range to the Goat Rocks.
A very beautiful trail, in great condition, with many beautiful mountain views.
Combined snow/rock scramble of Bryant peak (a snoqualmie 20!) in early June.
Fun climb of the Southwest Rib with a 5.9 variation at the start. Saw over 6 to 7 parties on route so recommend an early start.
Car shuttle (1.5 mi) starting at Stevens Pass Yodelin lot. Ascended open forest and snow E to Peak 5023, ran the ridge N to Welldigger's Ass, then back S to Peak 5023 and Big Chief. Descended from ridge to Stevens Pass (Lot B). IMO this was an S3 T4 snow scramble. 6.5 miles, 3,000' gain
Pleasant trail hike and T2 snow scramble to great views. 7.5 mi, 2900' gain.
Memorable trip, successful summit with a steep and varied approach. Very soft snow during the day, but nice weather all around.
Bikepack up double and single track following the Klickitat River in Eastern Washington
This was a gorgeous hike, on a beautiful day. The river was raging and the hike itself was pretty gentle. Trail was in mostly good shape, with occasional muddy patches. Road there was..interesting and pretty bumpy, but we all survived
We floated the 66 mile reach from Minam (MY-nam) to Boggans (Boh-GANZ) Oasis over 3 days. Moderate flows made for a fast pace with little effort and some very fun wave trains.
A valuable experience paddle for basic students exploring the area north of Hope Island and in and around Hope Island.
A beautiful and seldom-visited upper mountain, with stunning panoramic views. However only recommended for those not prone to complaining.
