A passage in South Puget Sound that separates Mason County from Hartstene and Squaxin Islands. Extending 8.5 nm north to south, it offers many opportunities to explore in a sea kayak. It is notable for flowing north on the ebb and south on a flood, providing current-assisted trips for the careful planner. It can be accessed from Arcadia, Latimer Landing, and Fair Harbor, and inlets to visit include Jarrell Cove State Park, McLean, and Pirate Coves at the northern end.

It's a challenging hike on the quieter eastern flank of Mount Pilchuck to a pretty alpine lake with some great views along the way. This is a good hike to flex your navigation skills and keep them sharp.

From the Narada Falls Trailhead, Castle-Pinnacle Saddle is a strenuous, 6-mile snowshoe or ski trip with 1,400 feet of elevation gain in the Tatoosh Range of Mount Rainier National Park. The route leads up past Reflection Lake and goes through a wide open bowl to the saddle between the two peaks. For climbers it's on to a winter ascent of Pinnacle Peak or The Castle.

Trails from the north and south side climb 1,000 feet through mixed forests to the site of an old fire outlook on the summit.
