Climbed Mount Anderson via Eel Glacier over the Memorial Day Weekend! We had a solid crew and checked many boxes on this climb: biking 6 miles with a heavy pack, fording knee-deep creek, and climbing a prominent peak in a remote part of the Olympic NP. We also ran into a cute black bear on our hike out.
A fun climb to help Michael Walther check off the last remaining peak on the Cascades Volcano peak pin.
12+ mile shuttle from West Elwah TH to Madison Falls TH in three parts: West Elway TH to Glines Canyon Spillway Overlook, down through the old Lake Mills lakebed along the Smokey Bottom Trail to Boulder Creek and back up to the dam, and out the old Olympic Hotsprings Road.
A CHS-2 led hike by Todd Cleland that took 7 up to the base of Si Haystack via Teneriffe Trail and back in a Lollipop loop via Roaring Creek. Atmospheric fog and rain made for a beautiful hike.
I scouted the trifecta of lakes on a picture-perfect morning, 14 miles/3500' in just under 6 hours. Trillium blooming in mass quantities. The hills are alive with the sound of birds - 29 species.
Low Mountain - Granite mountain Trailhead to Denny Creek Trailhead loop
So much to see, so little time. This popular low-tide beach becomes very crowded and today was no exception.
Mountaineers Rock Scramble with a very short snow section.
Overnight post hole fest from 4500ft till 15 feet below the summit. Horrible boot packing, great corn, one mans trash is another mans treasure?
Easy out and back through a valley recovering from a 10 year-old wildfire. Come for wide open views and a chance to watch nature heal.
Successful early season ascent via Avalanche Gulch. Excellent weather and surface conditions.
More skinning than skiing, but a fun trip nonetheless to this picturesque Canadian volcano.
Great Day for a trip through Deception Pass on the flood at ~3.6 kts. We then paddled to Hope Island, Kiket Island, and Skagit Island for breaks before returning via Canoe Pass just as the ebb was starting.
A straightforward trip up Mount Ruth in good weather, with a bit of caution around snow bridges on the trail and wet loose avalanches.
Snow on trail necessitated access via Silver Lakes trail. Trail is very rough with tree roots and 1/2 way snow covered. We were glad we brought and used steel crampons.
This was an experience paddle geared toward individuals who recently took the Olympia Basic Sea Kayaking course.
We hiked the loop counter clockwise. The trail is in great condition and the falls were going strong. This is a great low level winter/early spring hike. Be aware that there is a firing range next door so it is common to hear the sounds of gun shots.
A beautiful evening for a hike and dinner wih a view.
