A beautiful, warm and calm September day with little boat traffic made for a great paddle. Launching from Des Moines, we circumnavigated the island in a counter-clockwise direction. The water was exceptionally clear for this time of year. Photo by Dewey Fuller.
Successful Field Trip 1 for Alpine Ice course led by Jerry Logan
Spectacular views on this gorgeous loop that kept things interesting the entire day (besides giving us a great workout at ~15 miles and ~5000’ gain ;). Our ascent was via Rampart Ridge and the Wonderland Trail (with cross country scrambling right out of the gate), and a return via the Kautz Creek Trail (thereby avoiding a car shuttle). A rather unique hiking experience in a rather unique place!
We walked section 2 of the newly created Olmsted 50 trail.
We tested section 1 of the newly created Olmsted 50 trail.
We went from sea level to the highest point in the city... High Point! We saw the new troll down at Coleman pool (I highly recommend you check it out) and interacted with MANY free little libraries.
A beautiful trip on the Columbia River west of Longview taking advantage of tidal flows in both directions. Exploration of the slough between Gull and Crimms Islands was a highlight.
Yoga practice and a good trip up to views of the mountains through some haze
Seattle Backpacking Intermediate Program Trip - Key Exchange trip with Northbound & Southbound groups - late August 2023. Trip highlight was traversing the "knife Edge" & some participants summited "Old Snowy"
A pristine valley guarded by stinging sentinels, the northern aspect route of Tamanos might best be done earlier in the season. Originally included a basic rock traverse of Main Cowlitz - Double Peak, but our warmer summer made negotiating the Sarvant Glacier problematical (along with an elevated air quality index in 160s, the following day).
The scramble itself was not technical, but the off-trail travel and the traverse from chinook peak to crystal peak was tons of fun.
Out and back day trip to the summit via Sahale Glacier!
Not much to say- Basic Tooth climb Notes about permanent gear
2 day climb, spending the night above the 3rd pitch on the NE ridge.
