Discovery Park is a 534 acre natural area park operated by the Seattle Parks and Recreation. It is the largest city park in Seattle, and occupies most of the former Fort Lawton site.

Explore trails to remote alpine lakes among the towering 11,000 foot Italian Peaks in the Southern Beaverhead Mountains and on the Continental Divide with forays into Idaho and Montana. This is an excellent 3-4 day, 30-mile backpack including a base camp at Divide Creek Lake with day hikes into scenic Deadman Creek Basin and the spectacular Webber Lakes. There are very good opportunities to view large wildlife like moose, elk, mountain goats, and bears.

A moderate scramble located just south of Mount Rainier National Park with three approach options.

This hike starts out following an abandoned road near Lennox Creek in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and then begins climbing to the summit. It is 9 miles round trip with 3,800 feet of elevation gain to a high point of 5,408 ft. There are wonderful views from the top and a bootpath down to Anderson Lake.

A strenuous, 8 mile round trip hike with 2,800 ft in elevation gain. The trail switchbacks up steeply until reaching the broad meadows near the top, with scenic views of the Columbia River Gorge. "Day Hiking the Columbia River Gorge" calls the Dog Mountain-Augspurger loop hike the most spectacular hike on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge. It’s a steep trudge up to the top but the flowers and views are incredible.

A strenuous but rewarding climb to a high, massive and remote peak. While there are multiple approach options to Dome Peak, none of the approaches are easy. The rock ridge is exposed, so some parties have taken rock gear to belay and/or set up fixed rope(s). Times: 9-11 hr to camp, 6-8 hr camp to summit.

A fine outing with plenty of elevation gain, a moderate glacier approach, and a short, classy, 5.3 rock finish.

A 13-pitch, 5.7, Grade III+ intermediate alpine rock climb with snow to 35 degrees in the North Cascades. Times: 2-3 days, 4-7 hours from high camp.

Dorothy, Bear and Deer Lakes is a moderate, 11.5 mile in-and-out day hike with 1,800 ft in elevation gain. The trail goes up through primeval forests, passing by three scenic lakes.

A class II-III whitewater river run on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula featuring one of the most accessible gorges to intermediate boaters.

Hike, backpack,trail run, or bikepack up to 13 miles round trip with up to 1,200 feet of elevation gain in Olympic National Park. The route parallels the Dosewallips River, showcases fall foliage, and offers many opportunities for photos.

Hike the historic Steam Donkey Trail. The trail is part of the former Izett Lumber Company logging grades. This is an easy low elevation hike with a trip to the delta and estuary observation deck.

Next to the Burien Community Center, this is a 3.5 acre wooded park provides a quiet place for strolling, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.

Double Peak, on the eastern side of Mount Rainier National Park, is best known for the infamous brush-choked approach, thus best done at least partially on snow. Most of the strenuous 9 mi scramble is off-trail, requiring careful route-finding. Elevation gain is 4,200 ft, 500 ft of that on the way out.

At 4.5 miles round trip with 1,200 feet of elevation gain, this is a good mid-week quick conditioning hike! Walk a gravel road that connects to a short trail section that leads to clear-cut views of the Olympics and Lake Cushman. You must be a homeowner or guest of the Lake Cushman Homeowner's Association to access this area.

Enjoy a relatively gentle grade following Downey Creek into the Glacier Peak Wilderness.
