A wide network of multiple-use trails explores the reaches of the preserve, providing good hiking and trail running opportunities in a scenic environment.
Scrambling
A short but challenging scramble with a long approach. Located off of the Northern Loop trail in the northwest part of Mount Rainier National Park, this scramble is 24 miles with 3,800 feet of gain.
Snowshoeing
An moderate, 6 mile snowshoe trip in Mount Rainier National Park with 900 feet of elevation gain. The trail takes you from the scenic Narada Falls to the peaceful Reflection Lakes and a possible trip extension to Louise Lake.

Urban Walking
Enjoy urban, trail, and river walks with minimal elevation gain feet elevation gain that extend to Lake Washington. Downtown city streets have historic landmarks and Renton Hill offers a climb with spectacular views of the city and Lake Washington below.

Climbing & Scrambling
An easy Basic Alpine Climb or challenging scramble, 8,512-foot Reynolds Peak is located in the Chelan-Sawtooth wilderness about 6 miles northeast of Stehekin. The south is the higher of its two summits. It's 11 miles round trip with 5,300 feet of elevation gain.
Urban Adventure & Urban Walking
Home to one of the largest collections of rhododendron species in the world, the garden displays over 700 of the more than 1,000 species found in the wilds of North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as the tropical regions of southeast Asia and northern Australia.

Day Hiking & Backpacking
Rialto Beach to Chilean Memorial is an easy, 7.5 mile hike with 220 ft in elevation gain. The trail goes along the beach and up into bulkheads to get to a small campsite.
Sea Kayaking
Sea kayak to Fort Ward and the Orchard Rocks Conservation Area with abundant sea life, and Manchester State Park. With a big tide swing, it's a nice ride!
Urban Adventure & Urban Walking
A 32-acre state park near Shoreline, WA with beach access, picnic shelters, nice views of Puget Sound, trails, a moderate incline down to the beach and a mile-long shoreline walk.
Climbing
The climbing routes up Minaret on the Ridge of Gargoyles are Grade II, 5.3-5.6.
Day Hiking, Naturalist & Urban Walking
The refuge was established in 1965 to provide wintering habitat for the dusky subspecies of the Canada goose. Today it preserves both habitat for wildlife, and evidence of the people who once lived here. There are hiking trails and an auto tour through the refuge which are subject to seasonal closures.
Day Hiking & Trail Running
An easy hike on 6 miles of trail along the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River near Everett. The trail also has meadows, a grove of cedar and cottonwood trees.
Sea Kayaking & Urban Adventure
The River Ridge High School pool in Thurston County is a great place for warm water practice spot for kayak rolls and rescues.
Day Hiking
This moderate hike of 6 miles and 1,600 feet of elevation gain is for fans of unmaintained and abandoned trails and views from abandoned fire lookout sites. Starting from an old logging road above Lost Lake near Snoqualmie Pass, the route follows a combination of decommissioned roads, grassy tracks and abandoned trails to the site of the abandoned Roaring Ridge Fire Lookout. Enjoy great mountain and lake views along the trail and from the top of the peak.
Backcountry Skiing
Ski the backcountry on northeast facing slopes near Hyak and Snoqualmie Pass.
