Sea Kayak Navigation

Learn how to use charts, compass, and navigational tools both on land and on the water. Saturday is classroom only, Sunday will be at Owen Beach or other on-the-water location.

This will be the classroom session for the Sea Kayak Trip Planning and Navigation clinic.  The on-water portion will be held Sept 8th (location to be determined based on the weather forecast for the day; but will be in the Tacoma Region).  The lecture may be taken separately, but you will not get "credit" for completing the clinic without the on-water portion.  Occasionally, people will take the lecture one year and the on-water the next.

The session will be all day at the Tacoma Clubhouse.  We will cover tides, currents, weather, concepts in compass use, and chart reading in much more detail than the Basic Sea Kayaking Class. We will cover trip planning only in the aspect of navigation.

There are no prerequisites for the lecture portion, but you need to either be a sea kayaking student or have the basic sea kayaking badge for the on-water portion.

Note; we will not be covering electronics (GPS) use in navigation.

Those who have already had sea kayak navigation class training may be "bumped" if there is a wait list of participants who have not. If you are reasonably confident check with me about signing up as a helper.
