2020 Kickoff and Author Presentation with Tami Asars

After a brief meeting, Tami Asars will walk us through some of Mount Rainier’s beautiful backcountry in an informative slideshow based on her new book, Day Hiking Mount Rainier. With old-growth evergreens, wildflower meadows, enchanting wildlife, raging rivers, and sparkling lakes set against a backdrop of ice flows, gaping crevasses, and crumbling sheer rock walls, Mount Rainier National Park is a special sanctuary for locals and visitors alike.  Please join author and photographer Tami Asars as she walks us through some of Mount Rainier’s beautiful backcountry in an informative slideshow based on her new book, Day Hiking Mount Rainier (Mountaineers Books). Pick up a copy of the book and have it personally signed after the presentation. Books are $15.00 (please bring cash).

Bio:  Tami Asars is a writer focused on outdoor recreation and nature photographer, living in the Cascade foothills of Washington State with her husband, Vilnis and her rough collie, Scout. She is the author of Hiking the Wonderland Trail (Mountaineers Books), Day Hiking Mount Adams and Goat Rocks (Mountaineers Books), Hiking the PCT: Washington (Mountaineers Books), and Day Hiking Mount Rainier (Mountaineers Books). She also is credited with a Smartphone app called Wonderland Trail by Tami Asars which assists hikers as they navigate Mount Rainier’s Wonderland Trail. Tami is a contributor and columnist for Washington Trails Magazine, as well as a host of other outdoor publications and online hiking resources.

She is almost as passionate about nature photography as she is about hiking and her photos have appeared in a variety of periodicals including City Dog, Washington Trails, Washington Magazine and for the City of North Bend’s branding campaign.

As an employee of REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.), she taught classes for nearly nine years about outdoor pursuits like the where-to’s and how-to’s of backpacking, hiking and long-distance trails. She has also served as a professional guide, teaching and showing people of all skill levels the wonders of backpacking in the Pacific Northwest. When she’s not in her office tapping away on her keyboard, you can find her on one of the many trails in Washington State from the rugged coastline to the dense green forests of the Cascade Range, where she’s explored almost every nook and cranny.
