Interested in helping to teach in this year's Basic Sea Kayak Course pool and/or lake sessions? This class is designed to help brush up on how to teach the skills we will be teaching to our Basic Class students.
You should hold the Basic Sea Kayaking badge, or equivalency. Last year's graduates are encouraged to participate; you will find the information helpful to hear a second time, and we can use you as a helper! Expect to be mostly a "safety boater", but you still might get a chance to do some demonstrating and coaching. Note that some of our techniques evolve and it is good to get learn the latest. There will be an emphasis on how to rescue a paddler in trouble, for obvious safety reasons. This might be your first opportunity to learn these techniques. Download the agenda and notes—you may want to print and bring them with you in your chart case.
Dress for immersion- you WILL get wet practicing rescues. Neoprene hood is a good idea. Bring a CAG or equivalent so you stay warm when standing around onshore. Bring lunch.
Most of the day will be spent with the lead instructors doing the refresh. Lead instructors from last year may sign up in the same role for this year.
