Hobuck Beach Resort, Neah Bay, September 2, 2017 at 9 AM.

3-day event at Hobuck Beach Resort at Makah Bay (  Saturday will be devoted to introducing students to paddling safely in the surf zone.  This will not be about surfing, instead you'll learn how to traverse the surf zone safely in a loaded boat.  Conditions will be surf to 3 feet, wind to 15 knots.  Sunday will be devoted to a review of Saturday's lesson, and a paddle along the open coast.  If conditions and skill levels permit (read very calm day with a great forecast), we may attempt to reach Cape Flattery.   Monday we will learn rock gardening skills and safety, paddling and practicing rescues in the intertidal zone in surge channels, mild overfalls, and between rocks.  This is an intermediate level clinic.   Good directional control skills are needed.  A roll is not required, but is recommended.  I strongly recommend that participants have taken an incident management and tidal currents clinic before this.  The venue and order of the clinics may change depending on conditions, so planning on participating for all three days is required.  This clinic (if conditions are appropriate) will meet the Intermediate Kayaking Badge requirements for Surf Zone and Rock Gardening.  Open to Mountaineers members only, the listing for a guest fee was a computer requirement to post the trip.   Most participants will be camping at the Hobuck Resort; and camping fees, Tribal recreational use permit (I believe it is $10 for a year, Jan-Dec), food, or other lodging are not included in the cost of the clinic.   The campground is basic.  It has a men's and women's shower (1 each), multiple portable restrooms,  and alcohol is not permitted per local laws.  Contact the leader if you have any questions.  Leader permission required.
