Forward Stroke- ACA technique - Port Washington Narrows

Meet at 8:00am at Evergreen Rotary Park in Bremerton.

We will build up the stroke piece-by-piece, starting with drills on land. We stage a boat on foam blocks on a picnic table to dial in all the steps and get the form right. We move on the water and use a special apparatus with pontoons; assuming the participant is comfortable with the arrangement, it allows the instructor to sit behind the participant and work their shoulders and arms. This develops proper torso rotation and elbow position. The pontoons also slow down the whole process to make it easier to get each part correct. A second identical pontoon system allow the second student to practice without the instructor. 

There are other forward stroke techniques, such as a pure Greenland style. The ACA (American Canoe Association) style works with both Euro and Greenland paddles. I will bring along several sizes of Greenland paddles for people to try out.

Later in the day, we cover the reverse stroke.

Time permitting we will video everyone's strokes and have a look in slow motion.
