Sea Kayak Navigation and Trip Planning - Tacoma - 2017

Sea Kayaking Course

Sea Kayak Navigation

Sea Kayak Navigation and Trip Planning

This clinic is a two day event.  Students will sign up for the lecture portion on May 6th at the Tacoma Program Center, and one of two available dates of on-water (May 20th or 21st).

Day 1 at the Tacoma Program Center from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  We will cover concepts of sea kayaking and trip planning in much more detail than covered in the basic class.  We'll discuss chart reading, piloting skills, compass use, current prediction, tidal planning, packing for a trip, and putting everything together.  The lecture may be taken by itself, with the on-water portion taken the following year if necessary, but the cost is the same.

Day 2: Location TBD (Currently listing as  Owen Beach to Quartermaster Harbor, but location may change depending on weather, probably meet at 9:00 am).   We will have a single day of on-water for each student, with two options available (Saturday or Sunday, but not both).  We'll practice navigation skills on a day paddle in the Tacoma area.

Open to mountaineers members only.
