Instructor training for the roll class. Peninsula High School, Gig Harbor. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 from 1:00 till 3:30. Not all class, there will be time for pool play after. Gary Peniston, ghpghp@earthlink.net, 253-851-8348

OK sports fans- we have some changes this year. We'll be be teaching a bit differently. The basic structure will be similar, with some tweaking of specifics based on "The Kayak Roll" DVD, by Mary and Phil DeRiemer, directed by Kent Ford. I hope to have a newbie to go though the program with, and then we get into the new part- troubleshooting. I will attempt to do all the common things wrong, and we will see how to identify these things, and how to correct [coach] them.

You do not have to be a good roller to teach this class, in fact, you don't need to be able to roll at all. You just have to want to learn how to teach. I encourage beginning rollers to help with this class- it's a good refresher, we need lots of coaches, and you get free pool play afterwards!

Option: this year we have a new classroom session for the students, right after TTT, at the clubhouse. You are welcome to come. We'll watch highlights of the DVD, show some drills and stretching that be done at home before hitting the pool, see which students fit into our new kayaks  :-), and generally, get people pumped up for the class.

If you are interested in purchasing "The Kayak Roll" DVD for your kayak video collection, it is available on Amazon for around $30.  It has a really nice overview of how to teach a basic modified sweep roll, plus a great troubleshooting section.
