Kayak Roll - Pool Session

Field trip: Beginning Kayak Roll

Kayak Roll - Pool Session - Peninsula High School Pool

This pool session is one of three scheduled as part of the Tacoma group's 2019 Beginning Kayak Roll course.

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

The Roll Class pool sessions are at Peninsula High School Pool, 14015 62nd Ave NW, Gig Harbor.

We will be dividing the class into two sessions as follows:

Session One: 1:00 to 2:30

Session Two: 3:00 to 4:30

You will attend ONE of the two sessions. Session assignments will be emailed to you after enrollment is complete. Please let the enrollment coordinator know if you will be coming to class with a friend, and we'll try to get you in the same session.

Please arrive early and be suited up and ready for class before your session begins, as we will start promptly.

You will be working with an instructor on various drills and steps on how to roll your kayak.

Required Equipment

Bring your own kayak, paddle and spray skirt. If you have reason to believe that your kayak would not be conducive to rolling, contact the instructor or enrollment coordinator, and we can discuss options. We may have some kayaks to loan.

Bring some pool attire to keep you warm like a wet suit or shorty wet suit, and some footwear to protect your feet. Please avoid anything with laces that could get caught on foot pegs. Dive booties work well.

We recommend bringing the PFD you  normally paddle in.

Swimming goggles and nose clips, or dive masks, are recommended, as you will be spending time hanging out upside-down, and chlorinated water can irritate eyes and sinuses.

Lockers are available for clothing and personal items. Please bring your own lock.
