Adventurer, blogger, and podcast producer Diana Helmuth introduces her new book, How to Suffer Outside: A Beginner's Guide to Hiking and Backpacking (Mountaineers Books). Diana's book, illustrated by Latasha Dunston, offers a "nonprofessional" hiker's down-to-earth advice. Helmuth takes a humorous, practical, and often salty approach to outdoor recreation. Yet she is also an ardent (and well-informed) backpacker whose stories will get us thinking about gear, food, leave-no-trace principles, and inclusive practices out on the trails.
Diana, who's based in Oakland, CA, will join us via Zoom from 7 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021. Her presentation includes a Q&A with Tacoma Mountaineers volunteer Nathalie op de Beeck, after which we will open the conversation to attendees' questions and discussion.
