If you are new to backpacking or perhaps returning to backpacking after some time away, this course will prepare you to safely and confidently enjoy overnight or multiple - day routes. Experienced leaders will instruct and coach on:
- Basics of trip planning and route selection
- Gear- how to select, how not to go broke, and how to use it
- Nutrition and Fitness
- Leave No Trace wilderness ethics
- and much more
The two lectures are April 4 and April 18, both at 6 pm at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center. The Field Trip will be an overnight May 13-14, location TBD. You must attend all 3 to complete the course.

This course has no scheduled activities.
There is no required equipment for the lectures or to start the course. Recommended and required equipment will be covered in Lecture 1 giving ample time to prepare for the Field Trip.
