Day Hike - Granite Mountain Trail

Trip will initially open to Tacoma Branch Conditioning Hiking Students. Trip will open for registration to all Mountaineers, based on availability, 7-10 days prior to date of the hike.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft

Meeting time: 7am at the trailhead.  Early time needed due to REALLY small parking lot to a popular hiking and camping area. Even meeting at 7am means your car may be parked outside of the actual parking lot but likely close to the lot.

LEADER COMMENTS

1.  This is a GREAT huckleberry and blueberry picking hike so you may want to bring a container to pack some wild berries out with you if you wish.  I  typically just eat along the way but am OK with others picking all they  want within reason (a couple of cups or so).

2. This is one of the most challenging 8.6 miles that I hike because of the constant pretty significant elevation starting at 1.5 miles from the trailhead with the last 0.4 miles to the lookout really hard.  I do it because I love the view at the lookout and I can pick/eat huckleberries.  So this hike will be a slow one due to this and possibly a whole day hike; I never plan anything after this hike since it is hard to predict when we  will get done.  We will take time to rest for all as needed  to complete the hike together, take pictures, and pick the berries.
