Sport Climbing

Sport climbing is the fastest and easiest way to enter into the fast growing climbing community and the Tacoma Mountaineers Sport Course can be your ticket in.  Or are you  interested in transitioning from the climbing gym to real rock? Want to solidify or refresh newly acquired rock climbing skills? Want to develop new skills or push your climbing up a grade or two? If so, this course is for you.

Lead climbing versus following (or top roping)
Sport climbing students who want to lead sport routes need to show lead certification from a climbing gym before being allowed to lead on field trips.

Lectures will be held at the climbing wall in the new Tacoma Program Center. Field trips will be held in scenic rock climbing destinations such as Frenchman Coulee, Leavenworth and Washington Pass.

Lectures will be on Thursdays at 6:00 on September 1, and 8.

Field trips are scheduled for September 10+11 at Exit 38 and September 24+25 at Frenchman Coulee.

There will also be informal climbing opportunities at Edgeworks Climbing Gym in Tacoma.
