Basic Rock Climb - Kangaroo Temple/North Face

This is a basic rock climb for the Tacoma Basic Alpine Climbing Course.

  • Basic Rock Climb, Strenuous 2, Technical 4
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,500 ft

Hairpin turn, time TBD (6ish, likely). Email to come with details.

Although the classification of "basic rock climb" is accurate as far as technical difficulty is concerned, there are two components which make this a climb that is suited for BAC students who are moderately to very comfortable on rock: the "airy step" on pitch 3, and a free-hanging first rappel. These are great experiences for all rock climbers to have, but if you consider yourself still a little hesitant on rock, this is probably not be the best first rock climb for you.

For students who climbed R&D or Tree/Stump Route during Leavenworth FT9 and found themselves wanting more, this is a great next step. If you climbed Groundhog Day or Playground Point and felt like that was enough for you, you might consider other basic rock climbs such as Slippery Slab, The Tooth, or Ingalls.

Please feel free to contact the leader with any questions about this climb; please save sign-up questions for after the BAC rock field trips. Thank you.
