Tacoma Program Center, June 22nd and 23rd, 6-10 pm
This is part 2 of a 3-part series that is an advanced follow-up to the foundational rock self-rescue training that Tacoma Mountaineers intermediate students complete as part of the intermediate rock module. Qualified students may register for either part 1, part 2 or both.
PART 2: Counterbalance rappel to tandem rappel
Transition from belay to counterbalance rappel (belay off the anchor, harness belay)
Construction of rescue spiders (rope-based, bunny-ear spider)
Transitions from counterbalance rappel to tandem rappel (procedures for multiple descent pitches)
Prerequisites: Completion of the Tacoma Intermediate rock-self rescue lecture and field trip, or equivalent with instructor approval.
- Gear list: Email me with any questions.
- • 6 large locking carabiners, 8 non-locking carabiners
- • 2 cordelettes (one may be sewn)
- • 4 single length runners, 2 double length runners, 1-2 autoblocks
- • Auto-blocking belay plate (e.g., ATC Guide, Petzl Reverso)
- • Pulley (Microtraxion or comparable device is better but expensive, and not required)
- • Valdotain Tresse (sewn or tied)
- • Climbing harness
- • Helmet
- • One rope for each pair of students (30 meter double rope is best)
