Tacoma Scrambling Activity - Conditioner

Field trip: Alpine Scrambling Course

Tacoma Scrambling Activity - Conditioner - Florence Peak

Conditioning hike to Alki Crest for students in the Tacoma Scrambling Course-- NOT going all the way to Florence Peak.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 4.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • Pace: conditioner

Meet at Carbon River entrance to Mt Rainier at 0900. We'll gear up and hit the trail shortly afterwards.   Carpool if you can; parking there is limited.

This is a conditioning hike so we will be keeping a steady pace with very few stops. Depending on snow we will shoot for about 2 hrs or  a little more to get to the ridge.   If you just want some exercise and are not expecting this to fulfill course requirement yet, that is OK.   If you want this to fulfill the course requirement you must have pack of 25# or about 20% of your body weight.

There is a stream crossing partway up the trail that is normally a rock hop; but if there is substantial rain we will reschedule. We will be stopping for this and taking a little extra time to cross safely.

IF weather if good and party is agreeable, after a break we may head up Alki Ridge a little bit further just to get a bit of a view.
