Join Mountaineer Doug Kabel in this 14th presentation in our Walking the Wild series, featuring extraordinary adventures on foot by Mountaineers members in the wilds of the world! Doug will take you through the entire process of Trekking in Nepal’s most famous region, the Khumbu Valley and Sagarmatha National Park, on one of the world's most famous treks.
The classic trek retraces the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay and the countless other early pioneers of Mount Everest as you trek from Lukla to the Base Camp. As a teahouse trek you will stay in some of the highest villages in the world as you explore the local culture and traditions of the native Sherpas by learning about their spiritual connection with the mountains. You will walk through the developing Sherpa country past old and new cultivated fields and small villages. On the trek you will have the chance to ascend Kala Patthar, reaching an altitude of 5,500m and witness awe-inspiring 360 views including Mount Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and more. You will also have the chance to explore the various Buddhist monasteries dotted along the trail and learn about a culture steeped in history and tradition, inextricably linked to the very mountains on which you have unforgettable views.
Topics include food, packing, training, budget, flight tips, and great chance for Q&A. Non-alcoholic beverages and a selection of great snacks are included in the price of your ticket!
