Ever wondered what it is like to backpack in the most northern, and remote area of the United States? Join Mountaineers Ken Garrison and Monique Cherrier in this 25th Mountaineers Walking the Wild event, celebrating extraordinary adventures on foot in the wilds of the world, as they share with you the joys, frights and challenges of backpacking in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and Brooks range region of Alaska.

Ken and Monique have hiked and backpacked all over the world, but a trip to Alaska, and in particular the ANWR region is truly special, for many reasons including the unique challenges of the environment and logistical hurdles in reaching the area.

You will see unique landscape from the Beaufort sea/Arctic ocean to the Brooks range mountains. Experience arctic river (Aichilik & Jago) aufeis in spring melt, the ground hum from hooves of migrating caribou herds, and feel the struggle of hiking amongst tussocks and staying bear aware. The range of wildlife and birds in ANWR is rich and photos and stories of birds, bear, caribou, fox, wolf, arctic squirrel will be shared. Topics will include gear, travel logistics, weather, wildlife and bear safety.

The presentation will begin promptly at 7PM and end at 8:30PM with time for Q&A at the end. The event will be held on zoom. An advance ticket will be required to receive the zoom link to join the presentation.   Get your ticket at the link below!
