Seattle On Trail Navigation Workshop (Module 2)

On-Trail Navigation students practice both map and compass work and digital mapping with the Gaia GPS app. Workshop prepares students for the upcoming 'Field Trip.

Students must be registered/paid in the Seattle On-Trail Navigation course and complete the Module 1 work noted below before the workshop.

Seattle On-Trail Navigation class requires to prepare for the workshop by viewing several navigation You Tube videos before the workshop and completing an Alchemer, 20-item quiz,  The quiz is self correcting but requires close work with the Green Trails Mt Si NCRA map prior to the class.  Students should bring:

  • Baseplate, declination adjustable compass corrected to magnetic declination 15 degrees east
  • Green Trails Mt Si NCRA map, most recent edition
  • Headlamp with good batteries
  • SmartPhone with Gaia GPS and emailed gpx files loaded
  • Gear suitable for a brief, outdoor compass session
