- Bloodworks is an independent, community-based nonprofit organization that has been serving the Northwest for more than 70 years.
- They are the sole provider to more than 90 Northwest hospitals, which includes UW Medical, Seattle Children’s, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Overlake, and many more!
- Each whole blood donation is divided into three blood components (red cells, platelets and plasma) which can help 3 different patients
- Those who are at least 16 years of age are allowed to donate, no upper age limit.
- First time donors who are 16/17 years old are required to have a Blood Center permission form signed by a parent or guardian.
- You don’t need to know what your blood type is in advanced to donate. In fact, you could give us a call in 48 hours after your donation and we could let you know your blood type.
- The whole donation process (i.e. registration, filling out questionnaire, screening, blood draw and enjoying some refreshments) from start to finish takes about 45-60 minutes.
- Nearly 900 people must donate blood through Bloodworks Northwest every day to meet the needs of local patients.
