Description
Backpacking is the set of skills and equipment necessary to stay out overnight in the backcountry, intentionally. The goal of this class is to provide you with information so that you can enjoy overnight travel in the backcountry. This course is for those who are interested in backpacking, but haven't tried it; or for those who've tried it a couple of times and are looking to improve their knowledge. The class covers how to select and properly pack your backpack, food/stoves and cooking, boots/socks and hiking without blisters (or how to treat them if you get them), tents/sleeping bags and how to be comfortable sleeping on the ground, leave no trace camping (and how to answer the call of nature without any facilities), clothing and layering, and much more. The class will be from 9am to 3pm at the Mountaineers Seattle Program Center at Magnusson Park. If you have any questions, contact the Backpacking Committee chair Todd Mitchell at 206 297 7176 (before 9pm) or toddbackpack@gmail.com
