CHS Orientation

CHS Orientation

An all-day orientation session for participants in the 2017 Conditioning Hiking Series
37 ( 100 capacity)

Welcome to the 2017 offering of the Conditioning Hiking Series! Now in its thirteenth year, the course has 330 graduates who have the confidence to do some of the longest and highest dayhikes in the state thanks to their success in CHS.

This mandatory orientation session is an opportunity for participants to get their questions answered about the course, the hikes, and the many optional activities offered throughout the summer. In addition to the course administrators, you'll hear from presenters on Leave No Trace principals, trail maintenance, outdoor photography, stretching and injury prevention, physical conditioning, packs, clothing and footwear, nutrition and hydration, and navigation -- everything you need to successfully graduate from the course. Breakfast is on the Mountaineers, but we hope you'll supply a potluck dish for lunch. Potluck signup will be provided separately.

The following weekend we'll be offering optional pacing hikes for those participants who aren't sure if they're best suited to a CHS 1 or a CHS 2 pace.

NOTE: Due to space constraints, if you're a participant who has attended CHS Orientation in a prior year, you are excused from this session. However, please be familiar with the course materials prior to registering for your first hike.

NOTE ALSO: RSVPing for this event does NOT register you for the course. If you would like to register for CHS, please click here.
