Centennial Celebration at Olympic National Park

All are welcome to come and celebrate 100 years of National Parks during this free event hosted by Olympic National Park at the Staircase recreation area. This event will feature interesting activities of for all ages and will be held between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Staircase area of Olympic National Park. 

“We invite people of all ages to come enjoy this special Centennial event at Staircase,” said Olympic National Park Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum. “We are especially proud and grateful for the volunteers who contribute their time and energy to the Staircase area – this special day is the product of their initiative and hard work.” 

A variety of activities will be offered throughout the day, including visiting with backcountry mules, Junior Ranger activities where kids can earn a certificate and prize, guest speakers, and a birthday party! 

This is an outdoor event and will take place rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring a lunch.

The Staircase Ranger Station is located 15.3 miles from Hoodsport at the end of SR 119. From Hoodsport, turn west onto SR119 and drive for 9.3 miles; at the three-way intersection turn left, staying on SR119, and continue for six miles to the ranger station. 

Parking at Staircase is limited and attendees are encouraged to carpool. Parking is also available at the Bear Gulch Picnic Area for those that would like to enjoy a one-mile walk to Staircase.
