8:45am: Meet at the Longmire Parking Lot. Then we can  caravan through the gates at the same time when they open (hopefully at 9am). Mt. Rainier National Park updates their Twitter regularly with gate opening time info.

Mountaineers can provide snowshoes. If you'd like to borrow gear, please submit your request to the gear library by Jan 26.

Guests: If spots are still available one week prior to the trip, email Tom or Jeff to request that a friend or sibling be able to join.

Land Acknowledgement: We will be recreating on the lands of the Pacific Northwest Indian Tribes, including the Nisqually, who live here and steward these lands and waters as they have since time immemorial. The Seattle Mountaineers Youth Clubs encourage you to recreate mindfully and respectfully on our upcoming trip to these native lands.

  • Snowshoes (can borrow from Mountaineers)
  • Snowshoe poles
  • Boots* (insulated and waterproof)
  • Gaiters
  • Warm clothing and extra synthetic layers
  • Long underwear top and bottom (synthetic)
  • Wool or synthetic socks
  • Liner socks (optional, but recommended)
  • Fleece or wool sweater
  • Waterproof shell (jacket and pants, breathable with hood on jacket)
  • Waterproof gloves*
  • Liner gloves
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Stocking hat (wool or synthetic)
  • Brimmed cap
  • Water bottles (at least 2L)
  • Lunch
  • Day pack (small backpack with hip belt preferred)
  • Van shoes
  • Camera (optional)
