Counselor in Training Application

 Counselors in Training (CITs) are important members of Mountaineers summer camp staff. They help counselors by belaying during climbing sessions, assisting with behavior management, playing lots of games, and being positive role models for campers.

The Counselor in Training program is designed for teens ages 14+ who are interested in learning about working with children in a recreational camp setting and thinking of employment opportunities in the future. CITs will gain a sense of leadership, learn outdoor skills, and have fun!

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist camp counselor(s) with a group of 8-12 campers for week-long day camp.
• Be positive role models for campers.
• Enthusiastically play games and do activities with camp group.
• Sing your heart out during camp assemblies.
• Passion for the outdoors.
• Ask lots of questions and learn a lot!

A Typical Day as a CIT:
8:45 – arrive at the Seattle Program Center, check in with lead counselor
9:00 – campers arrive (morning meeting / song / group game)
9:30 – climbing session (help belay and support campers)
10:30 – snack and game time with group
11:00 – outdoor curriculum (such as outdoor cooking, navigation, first aid, or LNT)
12:00 – lunchtime
12:30 – walk down to Lake Washington for swimming time
2:30 – all camp game
3:30 – afternoon meeting (song and favorite part of the day)
4:00 – check out
