Summer Camp Backpack - Independence Lake - 2020

Youth Program

Summer Camp - Backpacking

Introductory 1-night backpack in the North Cascades for campers aged 10 to 14!

Independence Lake is a perfect backpacking trip for everyone. The low mileage and elevation gain are great for first-timers and the beautiful scenery can be enjoyed by all. This camp is open to kids ages 10 to 14 and includes transportation, food, and backcountry skills lessons.

Campers arrive at the Seattle Program Center on Tuesday morning at 9am. After a few ice breaker games, a gear check, and a group meeting, we will load the cars and hit the road! On the trail we'll learn about leave no trace, native plants, and play lots of trail games. Campers are expected to carry their personal gear and some of the group gear. Upon arrival at the magically blue lake, we'll set up camp and take time to explore, play games, and learn backcountry skills such as navigation and outdoor cooking.

Wednesday begins with a hearty breakfast and camp break down. After a bit more exploring, we'll hike back out with our new skills, friends, and fun memories. Pick up is at the Seattle Program Center at 3pm.

Looking forward to the adventure!
