Seattle MAC - Drytooling - Exit 38/Drytool Crag

A drytooling trip to introduce MAC students to the art of mixed, water ice, and alpine ice climbing. This is an advanced trip with prerequisites. See leader's notes for details.

We'll meet at the Far Side Parking @ 9am. This is the trailhead for Dirty Harry's Balcony & Far Side crags. We will be climbing at the "Wayne's World" crag

This is an advanced trip. Prerequisites:

  • Confidence and ample experience leading at least 5.9 sport.
  • Experience glacier climbing and familiarity with ice axe use, as a base for learning to use ice tools
  • Ability to handle poor conditions - adequate layers & experience to stay warm in freezing/wet weather

No Trip sheet. Bring what you would bring for a day of cragging. Crampons and tools will be provided but you'll either need your own fully automatic compatible boots or come to The Mountaineers to borrow some from the MAC cage before the trip.
