Seattle MAC - Backpacking Trip - Panorama Ridge

Alpine backpack in Garibaldi Provincial Park with expansive views of volcanic peaks and Garibaldi Lake. Exact itinerary to be determined based on permits but anticipate hiking up Black Tusk, swimming at Garibaldi Lake and ridge walking along Panorama Point (This trip is part of the MAC summer trip and registration will be through the master trip plan.)

This trip is part of the MAC Summer trip. Meeting place and time TBD.

Our itinerary which may be adjusted based on snow melt out and permit availability.
Day 1 from Rubble Creek  TH - Garibaldi Lake Campground (6 miles, 3000 ft elevation).
Day 2  Garibaldi Lake to Panorama Point - Black Tusk - Taylor Meadows Campground  (11 miles, 3800 ft elevation gain).
Day 3  Taylor Meadows Campground  - Rubble Creek TH (5 miles, 3000 ft descent).
Notes
  • Depending on snow melt,  trip may include snow travel with microspikes (and opportunity for glissading).
  • Early season can include bugs so DEET or picaridin bug repellent as well as bug head nets will be strongly recommended.
  • Note that we will be reviewing pack and pack weight the evening before and I will weigh your pack.  Ideally total backpack weight should be no more than 30lbs or 20% of your body weight.  
  • Garibaldi Regional Park offers tent pads, composting toilets, bear poles and  shelters for cooking. Anticipate tent sharing on this trip.

Prerequisites: Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course/badge. Attendance at at least 1 MAC conditioning hike throughout the year prior to backpack trip.

Students must have demonstrated fitness throughout other MAC activities and may be asked to answer certain questions to give the leader an idea of their fitness/ability/experience level.  Participants will be chosen at the trip leaders discretion and the above are minimum requirements which do not guarantee a space on the trip.
