Seattle MAC - Alpine Climb - Mount Adams/South Spur

3/3 update: A MAC ski of a volcano will only be possible with the assistance of an AMGA certified guide. Plans to still ski a volcano are in the works, but it will not be Adams on this date.

  • Strenuous 5, Technical 4
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 6,600 ft

See trip sheet for details after we make it together.

Likely will drive down Tuesday night to camp at trailhead for alpine start Wednesday or Thursday (whichever conditions are better. If Thursday, drive out Wed night) - all depending on crew's fitness and ability to do the climb in a day or not. It would be cool not to have to bring heavy camping gear. We will have at least one thorough planning meeting to determine what our approach will be based on how everyone's skiing season went.

Prerequisites:

For alpine rock climbs:

Skills/workshops: Multi-pitch systems, belay escape, rappelling, lead climbing / lead belaying

Other courses/trips: Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course/badge, Leavenworth Multi-Pitch trip / successful multi-pitch climb, Summer Trip / successful muti-pitch climb there

If glacier climb: In addition to all of the above: Crevasse rescue workshop, glacier climbing fundamentals (at least 2), Snow 1, Snow 2

For skiing: Everyone needs to have done the NIKO course and have demonstrated proficiency/fitness on skis.
