  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

Plan to meet at the Mountaineers at 9am

Please bring a sack lunch. Also, wear comfortable shoes since we will be doing some walking around Magnuson Park.

We'll start by introducing ourselves, then checking with each student to get a sense of how well they know their individual camera or smartphone and to find out what kind of photo techniques they would like to learn. Each student will be given a photo scavenger hunt list to try and complete during the day.

We will then depart the clubhouse and walking over to the pea patch area to take photos showing different perspectives (shooting from the ground, from above, close-up, etc.), with instructors helping the students with settings and answering questions. We will spend about an hour here before moving on to the dog park.

At the dog park, we'll practice taking photos of things that are moving and thinking about ways to take photos of animals that are different from the usual types seen. We'll spend about an hour at this location.

Next, we'll walk over towards the boat launch and try to find other things on our list, spending about an hour, before walking back to the clubhouse for dismissal (or to join the other teens for the rest of the day).

Note: all students are welcome to bring up to 8 of their images on a thumb drive to share at the Photography Committee potluck on June 20th at 6:30pm-8:30pm. Please bring a potluck dish to share.
