Seattle MAC - Backpacking Trip - Ozette Triangle

MAC members go on a multiday backpack trip along the Washington Coast

Meet at The Mountaineers program center at 9 am on Friday 11/11 and depart by 9:30.

Ozette Triangle Backpacking Trip: Nov 11-13

Trip Leader - Gwyneth Lyman

Purpose: Going on an awesome backpacking trip and experiencing the beautiful Olympic Coast.

Chaperones/drivers: Co-Leaders: Isabel Suhr and Shakira Addams, DRIVERS NEEDED!!

 Tentative schedule:

●      We will meet up at the Mountaineers at 9 am and head out at about 9:30, after the 4-5 hour drive from Seattle to the Peninsula we will arrive at the Ozette campground around 1pm.

●      Once we arrive we are going to start the first third of our three day hike Cape Alava and set up camp

●      On Saturday we will break down camp and head out by 9 am and hike 3 miles along the beach to either Sand Point and set up camp there.

●      On Sunday we will break down camp and hike the 3 miles out, departing by about 11 am and driving back to the program center to arrive around 4 or 5 pm.

 

Driving directions: Permits must be picked up at the WIC in Port Angeles before arriving at the Ozette Loop!

Get on I-5 N from NE 75th St for 13 min (4.1 mi)

Continue on I-5 N to Mountlake Terrace. Take exit 177 from I-5 N for 6 min (6.3 mi)

Follow WA-104 W to Edmonds - Kingston Ferry in Edmonds for 13 min (4.9 mi)

Take the Edmonds - Kingston Ferry to Kingston for 54 min (5.6 mi)

Continue to WA-104 W for 17 min (9.1 mi)

Follow WA-104 W to US-101 E/E 1st St in Port Angeles

From Port Angeles, head west on U.S. Highway 101 for about 4.5 miles.

Turn right to continue west on State Route 112 for 38 miles.

Turn right to continue on 112 west towards Neah Bay.

Continue for 10.5 miles, turning left Hoko Ozette Road / Ozette Lake Road.

Follow this road for 21.2 miles to the ranger station and trailhead.

 

Gear to bring:

●   Rain gear- most likely there is going to be some rain

●   10 Essentials

●   Hiking boots                                

●   Underwear                                  

●   Long underwear (top and bottom)                                   

●   T-shirts (preferably non-cotton)                                        

●   Fleece/softshell pants

●   Softshell/down heavy coat                                   

●   Fleece/sweater layers (not cotton!)                                 

●   Liner socks

●   Outer socks (wool or fleece)                                

●   Warm hat

●   Gloves/scarf                                               

●   Water filter or iodine tablets
