Instructing

Learn about how to become a snowshoeing instructor and find instruction resources

We welcome our snowshoe graduates back to become instructors on our course field trips! Each field trip listing will have an associated Instructor listing, where you can sign up to help. No need to feel like a complete expert in our curriculum and in teaching methods, since new instructors are paired up with one of our experienced instructors so that you can learn the ropes.

Instructing is really rewarding, and it's also a great way to build your qualifications towards becoming a snowshoe trip leader.

Signing up

You can sign up to be an instructor by going to the relevant Course page on mountaineers.org and clicking on the 'Register As Instructor' button. The only prerequisite is that you are a graduate of the course.

At times, we host instructor clinics to help give you the confidence to step forward and volunteer as an instructor.

It's not necessary that you believe that you are a full-on expert in all of the skills we teach on the field trip. You will be paired with an experienced instructor who has taught on the field trip before. You won't be on your own!

For 2020-21, the committee will be sending out the detailed handouts to the instructors, trip leaders, and presenters at our online lectures with well-defined roles, expectations, best practices and checklists displaying the content to be covered at the respective lecture/field trip.
