Snowshoeing is one of the primary entry points into the Mountaineers, and we always need new volunteer instructors to help teach winter travel and safety skills to our students, numbering over 100 each year.  We have designed this workshop to help give you the confidence to step forward and volunteer as an instructor for the Basic Snowshoe Field Trip. We will review the goals and structure of the Field Trip, and talk about leadership and instruction skills.

Why instruct?

  • —To get more involved in the club
  • —To contribute, sharing your expertise and enthusiasm with people new to the sport
  • —To solidify your own skills
  • —To start on the path towards becoming a snowshoe trip leader

It's not necessary that you believe that you are a full-on expert in all of the skills we teach on the field trip.  You will be paired with an experienced instructor who has taught on the Basic Snowshoe field trip before.  You won't be on your own!
