The field trip is your opportunity to practice the techniques presented in the lectures and reading material under the guidance of experienced instructors. Your mastery of the skills required for safe, enjoyable winter backcountry travel will be reviewed and discussed with you.
Adequate preparation is necessary in order to get the most benefit out of the field trip:
- Review lecture material, reading material and handouts.
- Practice the techniques beforehand.
- Bring adequate clothing and equipment for for a full, long day in the snow.
- Arrive early enough to park and make whatever preparations are necessary so you can be ready to begin at the starting time.
- Don't bring family, friends, or pets.
Note: It is Mountaineers policy that alcohol and controlled substances may not be used before or during club tours and field trips.
COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS
For the 2020-2021 season all Seattle Snowshoeing field trips follow The Mountaineers COVID-19 Guidance for WA Phase 2, and all participants must follow The Mountaineers COVID-19 Code of Conduct (please read). Some Phase 2 guidelines relevant to this field trip include:
- Carpooling with people outside your household is not recommended.
- All participants must wear a mask that can be quickly raised and lowered while on the move.
- All participants must bring hand sanitizer.
- Whenever possible the group will practice social distancing (6' apart). Masks must be raised when in situations where social distancing is not possible.
- Students may not participate if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 or have had any symptoms in the prior 14 days.
