Seamanship 201: Moving on Up

Field trip: Paddler Development Weekend

Seamanship 201: Moving on Up - Deception Pass

A progression from Seamanship 101, for paddlers ready to refine their strokes and skills.

  • Sea Kayak III+
  • Easy

Launch and land at Cornet Bay State Park.

Building on Saturday’s introduction during Seamanship 101, this clinic will concentrate a third of our time on refining paddling skills and two-thirds of our time on tactics to produce more efficiency, less adrenaline, less drama, less fatigue, and a bigger smile. Specifically, we’ll be using forward speed, bow angle, and boat tilt to move into and out of the tidal streams.  We will also begin to see how tidal streams are affected by shorelines and obstructions –– and how “our technique can drive our tactics”.

Immersion clothing and helmet required.
