Join us for a gentle introduction to the currents of Deception Pass. This class is a great place to start if you have never kayaked in currents or if you have but feel very nervous doing it! We will start in Bowman Bay and learn three important strokes to use in moving water. We will also practice wet exits and rescues before moving into the flood current.
We will plan to be in Canoe Pass before the ebb begins - that way we can start working with the currents when they are very mild. We will use the “challenge by choice” model so that those who want more can continue as the current builds and those who have had enough can watch from their boats or the beach. We will ride the current back to Bowman Bay when we are finished.
Wet exit practice and self and assisted rescue practice. Helmet required (bike helmet okay.)
