Kayak Camping

Learn and practice skills needed to plan and enjoy a multiday sea kayaking camping adventure.

An introduction to kayak camping equipment, packing a boat, carrying water and paddling a laden boat. Learn what gear you might want to bring on a multi-day trip. How to pack your tent, sleeping bag, etc. in the watertight compartments fore and aft. 

GOALS

  • Provide instruction in
    • Trip planning and logistics
    • Sea kayak camping gear and packing techniques
  • Create opportunity for participants to learn through experience
  • Create a safe and fun learning environment.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Participants should have some camping experience and camping gears.
  • Participants will attend the pre-trip planning meetings and the camping trip
  • Participants will participate in creating a safe and fun learning environment.
  • Participants are able to paddle  in winds to 10kt, waves to 2ft. 
  • Participants are able to paddle  8 nm a day and sustain a steady pace of 2.5kt per hour

September 4, 2024, pre-trip planning meeting from 6:30-8:30pm at the Seattle Program Center.
